The third in a series of four, this report describes part of a national study commissioned by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to investigate audience awareness of public radio, reaction to on-air fund raising and programing on public radio, and audience reactions to on-air fund raising by public television stations. This segment of the study investigated public television on-air fund raising. Data collected in telephone interviews from 1067 randomly selected adults provided a basis for comparison of the 1978 survey results with those of 1977 and assessed the following: awareness of funding sources, exposure and reaction to on-air fund raising, specific statements about fund raising, fund appeals, and programing, the reaction of nonviewers, and the attitudes of donors to public television. Appendixes include a description of the evaluation methodology and a copy of the questionnaire used in the investigation. (MAI)
