A Guide to Child Study and Student Counseling Services.
Columbus Public Schools, OH.
This guide is designed to assist parents and staff in understanding the nature of child study and student counseling services in the Columbus, Ohio Public Schools. The first four sections describe the role of the counselor within the schools, the scope of counseling services and responsibilities, and the relationship between the counselor and the community. Next there is an overview of guidance services at each grade level supported by a rationale for the programs based on descriptions of age group needs. An outline of the district's Careers Exploration Program for junior high school students follows. The description of guidance services for the senior high focuses on orientation services, testing programs, vocational counseling and vocational education programs available. Considerable attention is then given to the role of the school psychologist, with a step-by-step description of the referral and evaluation process followed in the Columbus schools. Also included is a brief outline of the internal structure through which counselors maintain communication and coordinate activities. The appendices contain lists of community agencies and course descriptions for occupational programs. (DOW)
