Training the Human Resources, July, 1977 Bulletin.
National Inst. on Drug Abuse (DHEW/PHS), Rockville, MD.
The Division of Resource Development of the National Institute on Drug Abuse is giving increasing emphasis to the needs and concerns of women, both in treatment and as workers in the field. Recently there has also been increased interest in the problems of the female substance abuser on the part of the Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health Administration and the Congressional Oversight Committee. This publication is devoted to topics in the field of substance abuse that concern women. The rising drug use among women and the need for improved services for women are discussed. Three women and their work with substance abuse are briefly described. Another section describes Caritas House, a Cranston, Rhode Island, drug treatment center for adolescent girls. The publication reviews several conferences held in the last year in which the treatment of drug-dependent women was either a central or major concern. Other sections discuss legislation developments, cover some of the treatment programs designed to give women special attention, and review five publications about women. (Author/JL)
