Art is Elementary: Teaching Visual Thinking Through Art Concepts.
Cornia, Ivan E.; And Others
This teaching guide suggesting specific art experiences for preschool and elementary children, is based on the assumption that visual perception is fundamental to learning in any field and that visual thinking (perception) in young children can be facilitated through teaching specific art concepts. More than 200 basic concepts identified, categorized as "awareness" concepts and "skill" concepts, and geared (in sequential order) to eight levels of maturity. Diagnostic charts, instruction sheets, and art activities appropriate for each level are provided to enable the parent/teacher to motivate and guide children through their developmental stages. The ultimate goal of the program is the development of visual perception leading to greater creative thinking and higher value judgements in all fields. (CM)
