The Development, Implementation, and Evaluation of an Elementary Student Teacher Supervision Program Utilizing an Interaction Analysis Format.

The purpose of this study was to develop, implement, and evaluate an objective approach to supervising elementary school student teachers, utilizing observational instruments and following an interaction analysis format. The primary instrument used was the Instrument for the Analysis of Science Teaching. The focus of the instruments and format for the model was to operationally define strategies that were believed to be important to the success of student teachers. Data were subjected to a Multivariate Analysis of Variance. This research attempted to better define the role of the supervisor and to develop a supervisor training program in order to promote professional growth in the student teachers. Results indicated that the success of this program did not appear to be significantly better than the one currently in use. (Author/M)
