Information and Issues Related to Cost Analysis of Competency Based Extended Degree Programs. Technical Report No. 5.
This technical report attempts to (1) provide information on issues and factors involved in analyzing extended degree costs; (2) provide brief explanation of how cost-related tools have been used in allocation of resources in similar degree programs; (3) indicate the types of information that are needed in making cost analysis of the extended degree projects; and (4) note some of the limitations of cost-related tools as they apply to on-going extended degree program development and decision-making. Cost approaches to the competency based education/extended degree at the following 11 colleges and universities are summarized: Empire State College, Florida State College, New College at University of Alabama, University of Massachusetts, Weber State College, Brigham Young University, Community College of Vermont, University of Wisconsin Independent Study, University of Georgia, University of Texas, and Oklahoma City University.
