Mediating into the Mainstream.

The paper describes Project PREM (Preparing Regular Educators for Mainstreaming), a program to develop a training model and materials to prepare regular educational personnel to work with mildly handicapped students, to expand the implementation of the training model, and to disseminate the revised materials within the University of Texas at Austin sphere of influence. Background information is provided on the implementation of legislation which encourages the placement of handicapped students in the most appropriate and least restrictive settings. Major competencies included in Project PREM are listed, and the 10 program modules are outlined. The impact of Project PREM is also discussed. (SBH)
