Provided are standards for agencies and hospitals serving developmentally disabled persons with emphasis on planning and implementing individual programs. The introduction provides information on the establishment of the Accreditation Council for Services for Mentally Retarded and Other Developmentally Disabled Persons and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, development and format of the standards, and the accreditation process. Definitions, principles, and a list of numbered standards are given for the following section titles: "Individual Program Planning and Implementation", "Alternative Living Arrangements", "Achieving and Protecting Rights", "Individual Program Support", "Safety and Sanitation", "Research and Research Utilization", and "The Agency in the Service Delivery System". Appended are indices to the standards, accreditation policies and procedures, a list of organizations involved in development of the standards, and a listing of councilors of the accreditation council.
