Experiential, or experience-based, learning programs can range from subjecting the products of student learning to judgment by adults to placing students in the community where standards are set by adults, students learn to negotiate on their own, and individual experiences are followed by reflection and debriefing. A number of benefits in the realm of lifelong learning, life-coping skills, and self-development and role-modeling can derive from the direct experiences students have in these programs. Brief discussions of active programs in Oregon, kinds of experiential activities one can create, and sources of further information are included. (Author/IRT)
