Disturbing the Disturbing Reality of Los Angeles High Schools. SAUP 496 Case Study in Process Design.
Rand, George; And Others
Social Building is a program at UCLA that entails management approaches to the design of facilities and urban settings. This report is the result of a study team closely examining four high schools in Los Angeles. The subject of this study is an examination of the relationship between the setting in which schooling is undertaken and education. Process design is presented as analogous to research-in-action where a lore about "what might work" is accumulated in the process of trying to do something responsive. This method is contrasted with traditional design. The final chapter gives examples of applying process design to the change process in humanizing the school system. (MLF)
