You Are What You Read: Motivational Effects of Reading.
Dickinson, Luren
This paper reviews research about how reading affects behavior. Chapter one gives a general introduction to reading effects and their implications for librarians, educators, and other professionals. The second chapter deals specifically with the 66 studies that have examined reading's influence on attitudes and emotions, analyzing these studies for the similarities and differences in their findings. Chapter three provides annotations of the studies, indicating their methodologies and results. Two tables chart research findings. Appendixes list more than 200 sources categorized by general effects, behavior and conduct of life, reading content/context, and selected monographs on reading effects. (Author/RL)
