A Model for Projecting Tenure Proportions and Faculty Flow.
Johnson, Robert A.
A model for projecting the flow of faculty as a result of various decisions related to tenture is presented. This model uses the proposition that future tenure proportions are determined by additions and departures from the tenured and untenured faculties. Its most basic assumption is that the rates of these additions and departures will remain constant throughout the proposed projection period. It is pointed out that the rates used in the model, which are based on the institution's past practices, such as retirement age, can be altered to test the effects of the adoption of new policies. However, some variables, especially the rate of departure through resigning, are more dependent on forces outside the university. A schematic representation of the model is provided. (SPG)
