A method for solving problems that arise in such areas as teacher/teacher and teacher/student interactions is presented in this document. The first section shows how to write a problem statement that answers the following questions: Who is affected? Who is causing the problem? What kind of a problem is it? What is the goal for improvement? Considerations are listed that can help educators respond to each of the four questions while writing the problem statement. The second section shows how to complete a force field anlaysis on the most pressing need uncovered through a needs assessment; the analysis involves rank ordering forces involved in a problem situation in order of importance, rating them in terms of clarity, and noting which ones need further examination. The document then describes a sample problem and shows in narrative and tabular form how the forces invovled might be rated for importance and clarity and how a force field analysis might be applied in finding a solution to the problem.
