This publication contains the amended text of the Older Americans Act of 1965. The purpose of the act is to provide assistance in the development of new or improved programs to help older persons through grants to the states for community planning and services and for training, through research, development, or training project grants and to establish within the Department of Health, Education and Welfare an operating agency to be designated the "Administration on Aging." The Act recognizes the dignity of the country's older people, and the responsibility of the government to assist them in the areas of physical and mental health housing, institutional care when needed, transportation, and other personal and community services. Sections deal with administering the act, grant programs, training and research, multipurpose senior centers, nutrition programs and employment. (Author)
