Small Groups Activities for Second Language Teaching.
Gonzalez, Barbara
This paper discusses common objections to the use of small group activities in the second language classroom; advantages which outweigh these objections; and guidelines for successful implementation of these activities. Prototype small group activities are outlined in two sections. The first lists activities according to skills focus, including vocabulary, which can be adapted to different topics. The second lists activities according to topics, such as directions, numbers, prepositions, shopping, and geography. These activities are described briefly but in detail adequate to permit a teacher to prepare the materials needed for implementation. Although many of these activities could be used with an entire class, maximum benefit will be obtained by using them simultaneously by several small groups at once. (AM)
