Delphi and Educational Research: A Review.
Nash, Nicholas
The purpose of this paper is to review the development of the Delphi technique and to explore some examples of its application in educational research. The discussion of the technique's development is intended to help potential users of the method see more clearly its liabilities as well as its potential. The eight examples of the technique's use cover three areas--educational goals and objectives, curriculum and campus planning, and effectiveness and cost-benefit measures. Criticism of Delphi as a research methodology is included. Despite these criticisms, it is suggested that Delphi may be useful for two reasons--it is a convenient and relatively nontechnical methodology that is appropriate for use with a population not primarily research oriented, and it appears a convenient vehicle for exploring probable and possible futures in what have been termed "squishy" areas. A bibliography is included. (Author/IRT)
