Teach Technical Writing? How? A Re-Tooling Model for Beginning Technical Writing Teachers.
Reinbold, R.
This paper outlines a procedure for helping teachers in other fields to become effective technical writing teachers. The seven steps in the process include becoming immersed in the topic (reading intensively on the subject and attending an orientation workshop for beginning technical writing teachers), developing a positive attitude toward technical writing, seeking out people that can help organize an instructional approach, using students as planners and evaluators, developing methods for course evaluation, spreading the good news about success in technical writing, and becoming a resource person for others when they begin to teach technical writing. This "retooling" process is estimated to take one and one-half years to complete. (An evaluation form for short, informal reports is attached.) (RL)
