Behavior Analysis of Reading Instruction Using Forced Q Sort Methodology.
Friedman, Marianne K.
Some 360 elementary teachers and reading specialists participated in this study, which sought to develop an inventory of specific behaviors in the teaching of reading. Factor-analytic and Q-sort techniques were used to identify 20 factors in the final 180-item inventory. Analyses of teachers' ratings of the items indicated that differences in behavior were not dependent upon type of pupil, school site, or amount of coursework; that differences in behavior were evident on the basis of years of teaching experience; and that changes in behavior and role perception were mostly likely to occur during the early years of teaching. Extensive tables of results are included in the report. (AA)
