R & D Strategies for Staff Development for Career Education.
Boyan, Norman J.; And Others
The papers presented in this collection examine the implications of a growing demand for qualified career education personnel including the need for staff training capabilities, particularly the possible requirements for supportive research and development (R & D) personnel. The papers are intended to provide information and perspective to those faced with decisions about R & D investments and to those affected by such decisions. Specifically, the questions addressed are whether or not R & D is needed to improve staff training for career education and, if so, what particular R & D strategies should be applied. The principal paper by Norman J. Boyan provides a review and interpretation of current activity and recommends a course of action regarding the investment of R & D resources. This is followed by seven reactions to the Boyan paper, viewed from various perspectives including the classroom, district administration, educational publishing, state departments, and higher education. Among these authors are both strong supporters and severe critics of career education as a major reform. The volume concludes with Boyan's rejoinder to the seven critiques. (TA)
