Fall 1974 Entering Students Enrolled in Fall 1977 (Seventh Semester). Student Flow Project, Report No. 36.
Hawaii Univ., Honolulu. Community Coll. System.
As part of a continuing student flow study in the Hawaii community colleges, this report focuses on the 695 extreme persisters who entered college in fall 1974 and were continuing their studies into the seventh semester, and specifically on such persisters at the Honolulu, Kapiolani, and Leeward campuses. Overall data indicated that high proportions of persisters came from the following groups: business, public services, and technology students; transfer students; and students with grade point averages (GPA's) of 3.0-4.0. Significant differences were found by sex in terms of educational objective and cumulative semester hours carried and earned; by campus in educational objective, GPA, age, and semester hours carried and earned; and by program according to educational objective, GPA, age, semester hours carried and earned, and graduation rates. Graduates differed from non-graduates in average semester hours carried (72.4 vs. 57.5) and earned (71.9 vs. 56.3). At the Honolulu campus, there were significant differences according to educational objective and GPA's by sex and by program. At Kapiolani, there was a difference in educational objective by program. And at Leeward, there were significant differences by sex and program according to educational objective. Dominant characteristics of the study population are displayed in tables for each campus and for the community college total. (TR)
