Highlights are presented of programs designed to aid students underprepared for college level work at the ten institutions chosen as Associates for the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) National Project II: Alternatives to the Revolving Door. The selected programs include: those at Bronx Community College, the Educational Opportunity Program at California State University at Fullerton, the Thirteen College Curriculum Program at the Institute for Services to Education, the Study Skills and Counseling Programs at Malcolm-King Harlem College Extension, the Educational Opportunity Program at Marquette University, the Special Upward Bound Veterans Program at Oscar Rose Junior College, the College Assistance Migrant Program at St. Edward's University, Resources for Student Learning at Southeastern Community College, the People Center at Staten Island Community College, and the Personalized Learning Center at the University of Florida. Information is provided for each program on program students' characteristics; program staff; the remedial program itself in terms of admission, placement, registration, orientation, counseling, courses, and tutoring; evidence of success measured by retention and graduation statistics; and FIPSE-sponsored research.
