Owen, Harold James, Jr.
This self-study manual provides a means whereby state coordinating boards for community/junior colleges and their staffs can better assess their role in the state's junior college system and identify areas where change or improvement is necessary. Items to be considered in the self-study procedure include: (1) goals, scope, and legal responsibilities; (2) organization and administration; (3) planning, research, and evaluation; (4) finance; (5) external influences and relations both state and national; (6) relations with constituent components within the system such as instructional programs, student services, state rules and regulations, and public services and continuing education; and (7) management information systems. A selected recent bibliography on state governing and coordinating boards for community/junior colleges is presented containing 171 citations to facilitate in-depth reviews of various board operational phases.
