The activity guide contains 24 suggested activities to improve the understanding and attitudes of children in grades K-12 toward handicapped persons. It is explained that sessions should be conducted once weekly over a 6- to 10 week period. Activities are divided into the following topical sections: what is prejudice--misconceptions about the handicapped, correcting misconceptions, the nature of handicaps--origins, eliminating social and environmental barriers, a visit--first hand awareness, and summing up. Activities are described in terms of appropriate grade level, time needed, preparation, materials, discussion, activity, and goals. Also included are a bibliography of 33 children's books at the elementary and secondary levels, a listing of 12 appropriate films, and a listing of 21 organizations from which additional resources may be obtained.
