Teaching Behavior Management Skills to Parents: The Group Approach.
Dubey, Dennis R.; Kaufman, Kenneth F.
This paper discusses the effects of and the need for training of parents of disturbed children. The authors have trained over 1200 parents in 68 parent training courses. They have offered 16 different types of programs to the parents of hyperactive, learning disabled, autistic or otherwise behavior-disordered children ranging in age from preschoolers to adolescents. They discuss briefly some of the programs offered, such as PAT (Parents Are Teachers) and PET (Parent Effectiveness Training). They conclude that parent training is a viable field, but that it needs to be studied and researched much more thoroughly in the future. (PFS)
