Evaluation of CBTE Instrumentation Strategy.
Way, Joyce W.
This article discusses a competency based teacher education program in which education majors, mid-way in their college training, are required to have a sixty-hour field experience during the semester. A method of eliminating some of the problems of evaluation of field experiences that are faced by the cooperating teacher and the college supervisor is outlined. The instrumentation strategy described in this report is an effort to provide more objective data for the evaluation of student performance in field situations. It is also an effort to make the evaluation process clear to all those involved, evaluator and evaluatee, before the evaluation begins. The instrumentation strategy is presented first, followed by a brief rationale for some of its features. Next, the method used to evaluate the instrumentation strategy and the results of the instrument evaluation are presented. The final section summarizes the instrument evaluation and provides recommendations. Appendix A contains the form used to evaluate the instrumentation strategy, and appendix B contains the complete list of comments made about the instrumentation strategy by the respondents. (JD)
