I'm Madly in Love with Electricity and Other Comments About Their Work by Women in Science and Engineering.
The purpose of this publication is to stimulate interest in science and engineering careers in young women. Questionnaires were mailed to 450 women scientists and engineers in the San Francisco Bay Area, asking their assistance in developing a booklet to encourage young women toward scientific and mathematical studies. One hundred sixty women responded to the questionnaire which asked them to describe their work, including a typical day's activities. Questions included were: (1) Are the opportunities in your field expanding or are they limited; (2) What are the difficulties or drawbacks of being a woman in your field; and (3) Do you feel there is room for you to grow and advance in your present job? The personal and individualistic reponses incorporated into this publication in many places should prove helpful to guidance counselors, career education specialists, and to both female and male students who are inclined towards such careers.
