Science Syllabus for Middle and Junior High Schools. Living Systems: Block B, Human Systems.
New York State Education Dept., Albany. Bureau of General Education Curriculum Development.; State Univ. of New York, Albany.
This publication is the second product of a project to update and reorder the Science Syllabus for Middle and Junior High Schools in the State of New York. The performance criteria and objectives are provided in a general outline in the first section, which conforms to the content subdivisions in the three "processes" sections: (1) Work and Energy, (2) Energy in Humans and Living Systems, and (3) The Application of Physical Principles to Life Functions. These three sections share the same format of "Concepts and Understandings" and their corresponding "Questions and Activities." A list of processes is also included as is a large appendix of learning activities. The publication is designed so that the understandings, questions, and learning activities are enhanced by the inclusion and referencing of program objectives, performance criteria, and process skills. Environmental considerations are infused throughout and the importance of consumer and career implications in a science program is specifically acknowledged. This syllabus could be adapted to a variety of science education situations. (MR)
