Cancionero Infantil - con Rimitos. (Infant Songs.) (Children Stories - with Rhymes.)
Lucero, Stanley A.; And Others
In learning a second language, children need periodic exposure to more than they can identify word for word. Also they need to grasp oral "chunks" or phrases of the language, rather than single words, in order to achieve a native rhythm and pronunciation in their speech. And, thirdly, they need practice through constant exposure and repetition. Simple rhymes and songs serve all these purposes, for they can be rich in vocabulary and pronunciation practice and at the same time they are also entertaining. The words and music of 18 simple Spanish songs and 30 simple Spanish rhymes from Spanish-speaking countries are given in this guide. The verses can be illustrated to add visual images to enhance the meaning. The rhymes and songs can be accompanied by physical motions to offer tangible reinforcement to the vocabulary taught. Also, these rhymes and songs expose the children to the children's literature and folklore of another culture. (Author/NQ)
