Described are findings from a 6-week tour by Americans of programs for the handicapped in India and surrounding South Asia countries. Reported in a city-by-city summary are efforts for the handicapped in New Delhi, Amritsar, Varanasi, Calcutta, Madras, Trivandrum, Bombay, Udaipur, and Jaipur. A final section provides reflections on the strengths and weaknesses of programs visited, similar issues facing the U.S. and India, strengths in Indian society to support program expansion, and personal and professional outgrowths of the trip.
