This volume presents a collection of papers and research reports by young black psychologists. These papers were presented at the Third Conference on Empirical Research in Black Psychology, whose purpose was to promote a research orientation in the field of black psychology. The papers deal with issues such as the following: race and social climate as determinants of effective adaptation in a university setting, experimental psychology from a black perspective, the relationship between black father-child interactions and self-esteem in preschool children, the development of self-concept and race attitudes in black children, the relationship between cognitive tasks and school achievement, sex differences and sex identification, and others.
