Parents, Teachers, and Children: Prospects for Choice in American Education.
Coleman, James S.; And Others
Sixteen authors, from many different backgrounds, offer their observations about American education and about American society in general. The articles focus on educational alternatives in the past and present systems of American education. Subjects covered include: historical perspectives on American education, teacher attitudes toward public education, parent and community views on education, cultural pluralism and education, the funding of public education, voucher systems, parochial education, and other opportunities for educational choice. Two appendices include a model statute designed to further integration and a friend-of-the-court brief filed in the Crawford v. Los Angeles Unified School District desegregation case of 1977.
