The purpose of this paper is to examine the goals of the National Science Foundation teacher institute programs and the extent to which these goals have been achieved. Efforts or evaluation by various methods are reviewed, together with their results and the consequent modifications made in the programs. Some further evaluation studies which might be profitable are suggested. (Author)
