The product of a Title IX Ethnic Heritage Grant, this teaching-resource guide has been designed and evaluated by teams of Native American adults, teachers, and Indian and non-Indian students from three Oklahoma schools selected as project sites: Anadarko Public Schools; Muskogee Public Schools; and Sapula Public Schools. The guide is divided into three sections identified by the schools and the tribes associated with each school (Kiowa, Comanche, and Caddo tribes for Anadarko; Creek tribe for Muskogee; and Yuchi and Creek tribes for Sapulpa). Included in each guide section are: an introduction; resource materials; suggested lesson plans; a bibliography; and an appendix. Identified by grade level, the lesson plans relate directly to the resource materials presented. Each separate introduction details background information relative to the tribe(s) associated with the given school, including myths and legends. Although each lesson plan is identified in terms of grade level, it is suggested that the levels may be adapted if necessary. The lesson plans span K-12, as designated here.
