Parent Oriented Home-Based Early Childhood Education Program. Research Report.
Gordon, Ira J.; And Others
This report contains descriptions of 44 exemplary parent oriented early childhood education programs plus a locator system designed to facilitate access to the information in these program descriptions. The program descriptions are organized into four sections: (1) programs in which school systems are the agencies responsible, (2) programs in which university and research groups are responsible, (3) programs in which community agencies are responsible, and (4) Home Start Programs. Each program description includes information on: (1) ages of children involved, (2) needs assessment, (3) program objectives, (4) target population factors, (5) specific skills, abilities, and understandings to be developed for children, (6) delivery system, (7) management procedures, (8) program evaluation, (9) operational data, (10) supportive materials available, and (11) listings of related materials. These program variables are presented in a matrix form which can be used to locate programs processing desired combinations of characteristics. This locator system is presented in Part I of the report. In Part II, the contents of the programs are highlighted and subjective reactions and recommendations are presented. Part III includes program descriptive material and Part IV contains listings of media and printed materials related to parent oriented early childhood education. (JMB)
