Les Moyens Audio-Visuels et la Strategie Pedagogique (Audiovisual Methods and Pedagogical Strategy). Melanges Pedagogiques, 1971.
This article discusses the relationship between audiovisual methods and pedagogical strategies, or between technology and instruction, in second language teaching. Currently, the relationship between audiovisual methods and language instruction is one in which the audiovisual component is subservient, and plays a supplementary rather than a central role. An example of this is the role that the language laboratory plays in language instruction. In this case the audiovisual component is not exploited to its fullest potential. It is argued that there must be a shift in this relationship, i.e., the instructional method must adapt to the audiovisual component, and not vice versa. In the long run, this should lead to a balanced relationship between the two. (AM)
