Notes on The School Psychologist as a Facilitator of Parent Involvement in Decisions Concerning Their Children: An Overview.
Lapides, Joseph
This presentation discusses a rationale and set of procedures that increase parent involvement in decisions concerning their children. Decision making is viewed here as a process by which parents choose, among conflicting considerations, courses of action which are in the best interests of their children. Decisions usually imply a power relationship between people. The presentation focuses on strategies that facilitate the equalization of power so that parents and children do not remain powerless in terms of decisions which affect their lives. Particular attention is given to re-establishing the development of the child rather than the survival of the institution as the primary goal of education. (Author)
