Life Style Forum: Representative Cases from a Male Juvenile Correctional Facility and a Women's College.
Eckstein, Daniel G.
This paper discusses some of the author's experiences in two sexually homogeneous environments, a male juvenile correctional facility and a four-year womens college, from an Adlerian perspective. Although unrelated, the two populations have important similarities and differences, such as that incarcerated male juveniles and college females often present pampered lifestyles in that the male aggressives exploit others while the females passives and dependents get their way. Representative life style case histories from each are included. Through counseling the subjects received insights into their views of life, self and others; confronted irrational and self-defeating notions; and received encouragement and rehearsal techniques for more appropriate behaviors and attitudes. In addition, the author presents implications regarding incarcerated male juvenile offenders as well as the cultural need and significance of the current women's rights movement. (PFS)
