Insights into Industry and Technology. Curriculum Guide.

One of a set of six guides for an industrial arts curriculum at the junior high school level, this guide provides the basic foundation to develop a one-semester course based on the following cluster concept: insights into industry and technology. An overview of industry and technology is provided to serve as an integrator or unifier of industry and technology as a whole rather fragmented parts. Emphasis in the guide is on the discipline of industrial technology in relation to the role of industry materials, personnel, production, processes, energy, management, distribution, and occupational information. Following an introduction covering rationale, cluster outlines and objectives, and cluster taxonomic structure, eight units are presented: introduction to industry and technology, elements of producing a product, processes of industry, resources, organization of industry, mass production, marketing, and sociological and environmental impacts of industry and technology. Each unit includes unit objectives, student competencies and related student activities, unit outline, and where applicable, illustrations and information sheets. (SH)
