Advocacy on Issues: Accountability, Work Experience, Assessment, Career Clusters, Post-Secondary Expansion.
Greenwood, Katy, Ed.; Skinkle, John D., Ed.
Professional development is the central focus of the collection of five papers included in this monograph. Casting views in the framework of "advocacy," each paper addresses one of the following topics which are of central interest in the field of vocational education: accountability, work experience, assessment, career clusters, and postsecondary expansion. Each of the papers is co-authored, and in each case one of the authors engages his interest from within an academic institution and the other from within a state education agency in order to produce a synthesis of views. The papers begin with brief abstracts containing the main elements and then present thorough elaborations of the arguments sustaining the advocacy. Titles of the papers and their respective co-authors follow:"Accountability as a Part of Professional Development: Vocational-Career Education" by Leon Lessinger and Francis Tuttle; "Work Experience for the Professional Development of Vocational Teachers" by Lloyd Wiggins and Ben Carmichael; "The Assessment of Post-Graduate Professional Development for Vocational Educators" by Joseph Nerden and Paul Schalles; "Staff Professional Development: Expansion of Clusters" by John Rowlett and R.D. Balthaser; and "Post-Secondary Expansion as a Part of Professional Development" by Richard Whinfield and Melvin Johnson. (BM)
