Attrition at NTID.
Welsh, William A.; Wilson, Fred L.
Presented are three reports exploring student attrition at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). The first report contains profile data on 302 students entering NTID in 1976 and attending the Summer Vestibule Program. Profile data given include both demographics (such as age, sex, race, parent data, and marital status) and communication characteristics (such as speechreading, written language, and vocabulary profiles). The second report describes analyses performed on 419 former NTID student data in an attempt to identify characteristics differentiating program completers and withdrawals. It is noted that results of comparisons of demographic, programmatic, and audiological data indicated that none of the variables used differentiated between completers and withdrawals. The third report describes further analyses of data on the same group of 419 Ss in an attempt to analyze attrition through a comparison of transfer students with completers and Ss who left for reasons other than transfer. It is concluded that the analyses failed to discriminate significantly between the groups of Ss. (IM)
