This publication is intended to aid school district officials and those responsible for providing preservice and inservice training for educational administrators in applying the competency-based approach to the training and selection of educational administrators. Normal tasks of administrative personnel, the recommended competencies required to accomplish those tasks, and identifiable indicators of the desired competencies are listed in turn for district superintendents, secondary school principals, elementary school principals, instructional leaders, business managers, and personnel directors. The listed competencies and indicators were identified by task forces composed of administrative personnel from 20 Arizona school districts and are intended to define the entry-level administrative skills desired by most school districts.
