Aside from Teaching English, What in the World Can You Do?
Bestor, Dorothy K.
This handbook examines job opportunities for college graduates with degrees in the humanities, particularly English. After advising graduates to take an inventory of their marketable assets, the book outlines some job-search strategies and questions the advisability of earning degrees in other fields. Subsequent chapters discuss opportunities in nontraditional teaching, campus nonacademic employment, editing, the media and related fields, book publishing, and writing and research for business and government. Five appendixes include a list of useful courses and programs, the survey questionnaires that developed material for this book, two of the responses from publishers, a discussion of internships, and a list of resource organizations that can assist a job search. An annotated bibliography is provided. (RL)
