Effective Communication: Language Arts Instruction in the Elementary School.
Savage, John F.
This book examines the theoretical bases for many classroom language arts practices and offers ideas and suggestions for putting theory into practice. Chapters deal with language, general curriculum considerations in teaching the language arts, vocabulary development, listening, speaking, writing, spelling, handwriting, and grammar and usage. When appropriate, reading is dealt with as it relates to other areas of the language arts. Each chapter is followed by a list of references and by suggestions that are designed to reinforce, supplement, and enrich the content presented in the chapter. A general bibliography is presented to aid in more extensive exploration of various areas of the language arts. (GW)
