Project Cadre: A Cadre Approach to Career Education Infusion.

Designed for equipping teams of local school district personnel, called cadre, to assume leadership of career education inservice teacher training at the secondary level, the project developed two products: a transportable package of instructional materials and a set of organizational procedures. Following a formative evaluation strategy, these products were employed at four four-day workshops that trained 143 educators from four states. Cadre evaluators indicated that the training was moderately effective in helping the cadre teams assume leadership of their districts' career education efforts. At least fifteen of the twenty-four districts involved were progressing in implementing their plans about sixty days after the initial training. Formative evaluation clarified that the strengths of the project were securing local district commitment; enabling district teams to coalesce and to become committed to an ongoing career education inservice effort through the multiple small-group local planning meetings which were interspersed throughout the workshop; and providing a clear, comprehensive framework of career education through concrete illustration of some practices and a definition of major concepts. In addition, formative evaluation suggested multiple minor improvements in the instructional and organizational strategies described and utilized in the project.
