The text is designed for a course in the application of behavior modification techniques with handicapped children. The first part considers eight elements of the behavioral approach, including describing behavior precisely, recording behavior, arranging consequences, and teaching new behaviors. The second section, a practicum outline, provides hypothetical situations to allow the reader to implement behavior modification techniques. The final section contains information on teaching procedure, consequences, and evaluation methods for 24 programs covering such tasks as putting on socks, eating with a spoon, establishing and maintaining eye contact, improving oral reading rate and comprehension, and teaching sight vocabulary.
