Student Activities in the Seventies: A Survey Report.
Long, Ruth; And Others
This booklet presents and discusses results of a national survey that queried secondary school administrators, activity sponsors, and students about a variety of issues related to extracurricular activities. The booklet opens with a brief discussion of the myths, realities, and current challenges surrounding extracurricular activities and then presents in turn the survey responses of students, administrators, and activity sponsors. The student survey investigated the extent and type of activity participation; attitudes about the importance, quality, and problems of activity programs; and the reasons students do or do not participate. The administrator survey investigated attitudes about the importance, quality, and problems of activity programs, as well as views of the organization, scheduling, policies, and sponsorship of activity programs. The sponsor survey investigated who sponsors are; how teachers become sponsors; the extent of sponsor participation; and attitudes toward the contemporary nature of activity programs. (Author/JG)
