SIGI: System of Interactive Guidance and Information. A Study of the Use of a Computer-Based Aid to Career Decision-Making at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
National Technical Inst. for the Deaf, Rochester, NY.
This report describes the activities of a group assigned to evaluate and make recommendations about the potential usefulness at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) of a computerized career guidance system, the System for Interactive Guidance and Information (SIGI), which combines value orientation, decisionmaking processes, and information dissemination to assist the counselor in providing guidance to the student. Following a section on the nature of the SIGI system (system courseware, hardware requirements, and occupational data base), other sections cover evaluation by other users of the SIGI system, applicability to NTID students, approaches to student utilization, and support requirements for the system. Finally, the document contains recommendations that the SIGI system be installed at NTID for a minimum of three years and that other conditions (for example, provisions for counseling) be met to support the system. References and an estimated cost breakdown are appended. (LMS)
