A Practical Guide to a Student-Centered Film Study Course.
Kilbourne, Jean
Despite the powerful role that film can play in the classroom, many teachers are reluctant to use it. They are either afraid of the equipment and technical knowledge, or feel unprepared because they have never studied films or filmmaking themselves. This paper is directed toward the would-be film teacher. It offers guidelines, suggests activities, and gives practical information with references for further investigation. It presents reasons for developing film study programs and expanding the use of films in the classroom. Various chapters deal with the types of films available and their uses, suggestions for conducting discussions, and possible activities and assignments. Appendices describes sources for film and filmographies, technical information, budget requirements, and a bibliography. (Author/DAG)
