A Contemporary Outlook on the Use of Media in the Classroom.
Axelrod, Herman; Tuten, Kerry
Film may be used in the classroom as a mental health intervention, offering a child with dilemmas, fears, or minor personality and social maladjustments an alternative means to mobilize his inner resources through expanding his acceptable models and coping strategies. Teachers using film in the classroom for this type of affective intervention must exercise care by (1) consulting knowledgeable therapeutic personnel in regards to specific films and situations, (2) ensuring that adequate pre- and post-viewing activities and discussions are provided, and (3) using rigorous film selection criteria.
