The Paraprofessional in Special Education.
Boomer, Lyman W.
A definition for the term "paraprofessional" is proposed, and the role of paraprofessionals in programs for handicapped learners is examined. It is reported that the special education paraprofessional assists in the development of the instructional program and shares in the responsibility for effective classroom management, while the special education teacher is primarly responsible for defining and directing the instructional program and teaching the children, as well as acting as program manager and supervisor.
